Material inventiveness Attentive examination of the works of the Norwegian practice Helen & Hard routinely engages the beholder in discovering, assembling and actualizing the tangible and latent potentials that are characteristic of their designs. Helen & Hard established their name through a series of exceptional high-profile projects such as the Pulpit Rock Mountain Lodge (2008), the Norwegian Pavilion at the Shanghai Expo (2010), and the Vennesla Library and Cultural Centre (2011), but also the Geopark playground (2008) in Stavanger. This fostered the question whether the architects would succeed in realizing their signature architectural goals and qualities in everyday projects that are subjected to stringent constraints.
