Typical village Neuaigen near Tulln is a typical Lower Austrian Straßendorf (linear village). The population is just 500, the church, the primary school, which is used as meeting place by various associations, and the former bakery, which is now a grocer's, are all that remains of the infrastructure. On the main street you can still get some idea of how the village was laid out: single-storey, pitched roof houses, similar to each other in kind, form a continuous front. The long narrow plots behind are directly connected to the farmers' fields. The client comes from Neuaigen, her family had lived in the house on the street for 150 years. She moved to Vienna, but over the course of time she developed a yearning to live in the country, she wanted to settle in Neuaigen again. The old house was in an appalling condition. The last few winters had taken their toll: damp walls, crumbling plaster, draughty, poorly fitting windows, a mouldy earth floor and an Eternit facade that was breaking away from the wall. Something had to be done.
