With the advent of digital design tools, the architectural design process itself was forced to adapt. In earlier times a designer used a wide spectrum of design methods. Among them were pencil & paper drawings for conceptualization and form finding, precise computer drawings for measurements proofing and physical 3D models for the tectonic articulation. The design was abstracted at multiple design stages in two dimensional plans and sections. Shifting between 3D and 2D was immensely important for the design feedback, helping to improve, while at same time sharpening, simplifying and concretizing the design task.
