Hotel history, intelligently conceived further A spa in atypical Tyrolean tour-ism Community shows that developing an existing hotel further, without dramatic gestures but with the courage to intro-duce the unfamiliar, can function and indicates what a "Wellness landscape" can mean beyond the usual cliches. Tyrolean tourism logic Fügen is Tyrolean tourism com-munity that could hardly be more typical. Hotels that have grown more and more massive over the decades and now re-semble castles that have lost any sense of scale and that cul-tivate the most extreme kind of Alpine kitsch determine the appearance of the place, along with cable car stations and ski lifts. As well as the Zillertaler Schürzenjäger, a popular folk music group, and an important timber industry, this region, 40 km to the east of Innsbruck, is known for tourism, from which it lives. With 5,000 guest beds and up to 660,000 over-night stays annually - in summer almost as many as in win-ter - hotel owners in Fügen must stay on the ball and con-stantly adapt their infrastructure. Nevertheless, high quality architecture is an exception.
