Essay: 21st Century Latin America: Presence of the Future and Debts from the Past

The territory south of the Rio Bravo (which by convention we will call Latin America) is characterized by extreme geographical and climatic diversity. More than 400 different languages are spoken over the 10,000 miles which separate its northern and southern ends. Powerful ancient civilizations (which ignored the existence of Rome) have left many traces of an extraordinary richness and variety. Twenty-two countries comprise these lands. Does it make any sense to look here for shared attributes? What follows is a brief explanation of the positive response this publication entails.
