Interview: Beyond the Boundary between Architecture and Art

Editor: Would you tell us how you came to establish Jai & Jai Gallery?Jaitip Srisomburananont: It was an extreme challenge to start a gallery, particularly before I even began my career as an aspiring architect. I graduated from SCI-Arc in 2010, at a time when it was difficult to find a design job. Needless to say, I was highly influenced by my education at SCI-Arc. The faculty, the curriculum, the academic culture, and the institution's overall approach towards the discipline of architecture were highly influential in my approach to my career after graduating. In retrospect, considering the culmination of timing upon graduating, my newly found perspective of the design world, and the city of Los Angeles- my hometown, it was a natural step to start a studio-which is what Jai & Jai originally was. And despite my rational side, our decision to turn the studio into a gallery made more sense than running an architecture studio.
