Hallmark House is one of two of the largest buildings on the East side of Johannesburg CBD. An icon of the Joburg city skyline, the 66-metre-high modular structure was originally designed by Greg Cohen in the late 1970s to house a growing diamond-polishing business. Flexible and modular in structure, it was versatile enough to house light-industrial, showroom and office spaces. Adjaye Associates' reinvention of the building will offer a new residential tower that will contribute to the ongoing regeneration and transformation of Johannesburg's CBD as part of the Maboneng development. Meaning place of light', Maboneng is a privately developed urban neighbourhood on the east side of the CBD. It has become a thriving mixed-use community within a connected urban environment.
