The Marine Drive project was first mooted by Ghana's first president in 1963, Between 2002 and 2005, the late Minister of Tourism and Modernization of the Capital City moved the project a step further by helping to put a design of the project on paper. Then in 2014, the then Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts Minister took it a step further by getting the Cabinet's approval. But again, it stalled because of challenges with the Allodial owners of the land. The Nana Addo administration revitalized the project, which is aiming for completion by 202 7. The Marine Drive Project is expected to employ some 150.000 people, especially within the catchment area, and to boost tourism and increase economic growth. The 10-year project, a Public-Private Partnership, is situated on a total of 248 acres of land.
