Preservation of the Kenzo Tange Archive Architectural Drawings

The preservation of the Kenzo Tange Archive is an on-going collaborative effort involving archivists, curators, conservators, imaging specialists and collection managers. Conservation techniques are continuously developed to better stabilize the fragile drawings and improve treatment efficiency. The focus is primarily on the pressure-sensitive tape and adhesive removal, virtually invisible mending techniques, and improved housing options to permit the drawings to be better studied and handled safely (Figs. 10-13). The preservation strategies developed for the Tange Archive are informing the workflow processes for the treatment, digitization, and storage of other important collections of architectural records at the Frances Loeb Library and across Harvard Library.
