Cantareira Building

The building emphasizes throughout its exterior design a consistent overlapping of the various floors that comprise it, with a narrow crevice in the shadows to serve as a gap between slabs. The image of different levels superimposed one on the other is accentuated in the south and east elevations through an alternating and independent rotation of the four facade planes. To avoid having a continuous plane on the east (which acts as an elevation for both the neighbor and the street) we propose a rotation of the floors, causing a movement of volumes that we think cancels the rigid image of the gable roof. This rotation also allows the interior to enjoy different points of view toward the landscape. The development of the building follows the angle of the site toward the east, "forcing" the body to twist toward the north and reinforcing the diagonal separation of the volume by opening up a vertical slit in the form of the staircase to the east.
