House in Ajuda

This project is a vertical house with common spaces that support the life of a household. A collective and shared space that profits from the existence of several levels and spatial values. The concept of the house is given by the definition of the space that unifies and connects through its full height. It is an aggregator of all functions that are revealed upon its path. At the entrance, one is at the base of a void of enclosed air that escapes at the top of the house through an infinite skylight. The space reverberates through all the common spaces of the house. The entrance floor extends under a triangular space into the music room. This room is double height and connects visually from the upper floor to a stairway landing. Above it, the library opens up to the void over the entrance. On the upper floor, this space connects to the living room, which opens to two sides: south toward the river and the Igreja da Memoria (Church of Memory) and north toward the great palace of Ajuda. The stairs are located within a triangular volume generated by the shape of the skylight. Each space opens itself to the exterior, whilst defining the facade and image of the building.
