The australian institute of architects Gold Medal, the Institute's highest accolade, recognises distinguished service by an Australian architect who has designed or executed buildings of high merit, produced work of great distinction resulting in the advancement of architecture; or endowed the profession of architecture in a distinguished manner.rnThis year's Gold Medallist, Ken Maher has worked tirelessly over nearly 40 years, on so many levels, to further the broad influence and status of architecture in this country, I know of few other architects who have played such a leading role or had such a lasting effect.
