From late January through to mid-February, Newcastle's urban renewal comes into focus through a series of public installations by 17 teams of artists, architects and landscape architects. Curated by Professor Steffen Lehmann of the University of Newcastle (also Chair in Sustainable Development for Asia and the Pacific), the project explores the importance of creative collaborations within urban revitalisation. Documenting these temporary installations is the book, Back to the City: Strategies for Informal Urban Interventions (Hatje Cantz Verlag/Tower Books, 2008). The AAA is holding an urban walk in conjunction with Back to the City for a guided experience of the projects.
