The overflow park in homebush was one of those leftover spaces at Sydney's Olympic Games site to be subsequently rationalised by a collaboration of architects, artists and engineers. Located between the Olympic Park railway station and ANZ Stadium, it is today a venue for a variety of public entertainment events, as well as being an important community common. Following a contested selection process on completion of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, Tzannes Associates was commissioned to completely redesign the existing open space for its post-Olympic life, and include a new monument to the Sydney 2000 games.
