Progressing the 2020 advocacy agenda

As we start a new year the Institute continues to focus on influencing the policy outcomes for the Design and Practitioners Bill 2019. With the NSW Upper House scheduled to resume debate on the Bill in late February, the Institute is continuing to promote our recommendations: to deliver better equity of obligation and accountability more broadly across the industry, a nationwide requirement for the registration of all building practitioners and more robust and trusted certification processes. In summary, the bill will impact registered designers, registered principal designers and registered builders. It aims to provide greater transparency of compliance certification to consumers, in addition to more rigour around duty of care and warranties for purchasers.
