摘要

The editorial brief for the AR's recent Australian tour was, above all else, not to come back with any more crinkly-tin sub-tropical houses. No matter how delightful they were, we wanted something more urbane. We wanted to learn how architects were tackling issues related to contemporary practice in the city, to give readers an understanding of the breadth of Australian architecture today, beyond the modernism of Harry Seidler or the corrugations of Glenn Murcutt (two of the country's most internationally lauded architects). We visited Queensland - a region previously overlooked by the AR's historic coverage, which predominantly focused on Sydney and Melbourne - meeting more than 25 architects and visiting over 40 buildings in an intensive 10-day tour.
