The big sign of La Ciutat Invisible welcomes you to La Comunal, Lacol's latest project in Barcelona's neighbourhood of Sants, a cooperative of cooperatives that is also home to their new offices. La Ciutat Invisible is a bookshop and cultural project producing critical content related to the notion of 'living otherwise' as an act of resistance to the capitalist system, and its founders have been long-time friends and collaborators of Lacol - as Andre Breton once said, 'one publishes to find comrades'. Their relationship is based on comradeship and support, two terms that, not by coincidence, have been recurrent in feminist discourse over the years. And this sense of comradeship spreads wider. La Comunal, started in 2018 with the rehabilitation of buildings from the early 20th century used for the manufacture of sailing textiles, is now also the new home of: Directa, a media company promoting transparency, data analysis and social debate; Aula d'Idiomes, a not-for-profit organisation teaching languages and translation; tech cooperative Jamgo; Que Soni, providing sound, lighting and technical services to festivals and spectacles; and La Deskomunal, a space offering live music and a restaurant with high-quality food cooked with products sourced nearby at affordable prices.
