Enzo Mari said in an interview in 2010: 'Let's teach our kids to be craftsmen, to master again the art of drawing (a slow skill that requires thinking), to understand what was done in the past, and why and how'. Rather than a superficial reading of the world around us, Mari lived to encourage 'societal thinking' and believed young designers should be confronted with the blank page, prompting them to look beyond formal considerations, in order to reinvent rather than replicate.
