LocHal library is an optimistic response to the post-industrial age, with its rapidly changing patterns of work, leisure and learning. Lead architects Braaksma & Roos, working with Mecanoo on the interiors, have transformed a locomotive shed into a feast of cultural and social activities. The most important is the Midden-Brabant Library, but it also includes cultural organisations Kunstlor and Brabant C, as well as co-working and display spaces. Here, citizens of all ages come to read, work, learn, share ideas and engage in communal activity. Located next to Tilburg train station in the heart of the new city campus, the retrofit project is conceived as an urban living room, with a cafe at its heart.
