摘要

Prestressing technology was applied to the main building of Seisen University, a Renaissance style brick wall structure. Introduction of prestressing enables higher bound between bricks and mortar joints than in the existing conditions and minimizes damage to the brick walls in the event of an earthquake. An experimental investigation carried out on a brick wall strengthened using this technology revealed that the wall had a load-bearing capacity and deformation performance, respectively, at least 4.6 times and 16 or more times greater than that of an unreinforced brick wall.
