Global architectural design office HOK was an early adopter of both sustainable design and ecological design research. The firm's initiative in green design has proved formative for North American architecture. Key members of the practice were instrumental in establishing the US Green Building Council in the early 1990s, which helped propel sustainability from the fringes into a significant mainstream movement. Now in its second edition, The HOK Guidebook to Sustainable Design is an influential manual used by both design professionals and students.1
