摘要

Computational analysis and building information modelling (BIM) technologies not only help in predicting the performance of buildings in terms of structural and energy efficiency, they also enable virtual prototyping before they are constructed. This helps tackle construction and design coordination issues early on, significantly reducing design, material and construction costs. What remains a challenge, however, is virtualising the operation of a building, or predicting and optimising its performance from a 'user experience' perspective. This is a major limitation, given that the success or failure of a building largely depends on its operational efficiency and the comfort of its occupant and visitors.
