At some point in the past my ancestors emigrated from their homeland and came through New York City on their way to a foreign and isolated land. Ironically I've done the inverse, coming from that once foreign land through New York on my way, unintentionally, to Australia. Moving to Australia was not by architectural choice. I married an Australian and after living in New York City for seven years we decided that a change in lifestyle was needed. This change was not by design or for employment, but rather for a range of opportunities, among them architecture. I've been in Australia for nearly a year and I've experienced the local, selective and specific forms of architecture, and I'm excited to be part of it. It's difficult to separate good architecture or the practice of architecture from the environment in which it takes place. After living and working in New York City for so long, it was also difficult to extract myself from the city. I sense that Australia and the architecture here, does have a similar capacity to permeate.
