Crown Metropol

The third hotel at the Crown Casino is the 28-storey Crown Metropol nearing completion. Designed by Bates Smart, it is a sheer extrusion of form delineated as stacks of three floors what could have potentially been a relentless glass curtain achieves an animated flicker and swirl by offsetting tapering blades that climb along its surface. This visual effect, combined with presenting a sinuous plan along its Clarendon Street frontage, lifts it outside the monolithic. An anomalous pod form snuggles up to its base as a plugged-in concession to the low-level streetscape.
