The 23rd Meeting of the American Real Estate Society (ARES) was held in San Francisco, California, on April 10-14, 2007. This year, a record-breaking 225 papers and 7 panel discussions were presented by academicians, PhD students, and researchers, as well as by valuation practitioners.rnThe presentations covered a vast array of real estate topics, including portfolio management; real estate cycles; housing prices; real estate investment trusts (REITs) and public real estate market dynamics; real estate education; and environmental issues. There were numerous topics of interest to those in the appraisal profession, including expert panels on global markets, real estate portfolio returns, the real estate bubble, and the creation of data standards in real estate. Similar to the previous two meetings, there was additional focus on housing-related issues, a likely outcome of the slowing housing market not only in the United States, but many foreign countries as well.
