A novel magnetic polymer was prepared from nylon 6 and Co3O4@SiO2 magnetic nanoparticles (MAG-Co3O4@ SiO2-N6) for the first time with significant performance in the elimination of Pb(II) from wastewater samples. MAG-Co3O4@SiO2-N6 was characterized by FESEM, TEM, TGA, XRD, EDS, FT-IR and VSM measurements. The Co3O4@SiO2 magnetic nanoparticles (NPs) had a high saturation magnetization (30 emu/g). The saturation magnetization of Co3O4@SiO2 magnetic nanoparticles decreased from 30 to 7.8 emu/g after coating by nylon-6 but yet shows paramagnetic properties and could be isolated from the environment using an exterior magnet. The SEM images reveal that the MAG-Co3O4@SiO2-N6 have a porous surface. The maximum capability of MAGCo(3)O(4)@SiO2-N6 in the adsorption of Pb(II) ion was 666.67 mg/g at 298 K. Six-cycle reusing affirmed that MAGCo(3)O(4)@SiO2-N6 could be adequately regenerated and used several times with a limited adsorption loss ( 30%).
