DC transport current measurements on prototype superconducting wire artefacts have been made in pulsed magnetic fields up to 41 T. The measurements were made over 9 cm lengths of wire wound helically round a 1 cm diameter former. Both powder in tube and open tape wire have been tested and it was found that the open tape performed significantly better under the action of the pulsed field than the powder in tube material. Significant differences in determined critical currents measured by this and conventional techniques are seen. It is believed that this is the result of eddy current heating in the silver substrate since such differences are not present in samples with electrically insulating substrates.
