Announcement: Celebration of Applied Physics Letters' fiftieth anniversary with revision of the table of contents and increased article length limit

The first issue of Applied Physics Letters was published in September 1962. Science has certainly not stood still since then and nor has the journal. It has evolved as the years have passed to meet the needs of the community it serves and in 2012-its fiftieth year-we intend to continue that evolution. We are pleased to announce two important changes that will be implemented in January 2012, coinciding with the first published issue of Volume 100: a revision of the table of contents headings and an increase in length limit. The table of contents of Applied Physics Letters will be revamped to reflect changes in topical coverage within the applied physics community.
