[Editor's Note: In this issue we are pleased to see a personal history by R. W. P. King. I have had the pleasure of knowmg Dr. King and, particularly, some of his early students, Chen To Tai, Tetsu Morita, Kiyo Tomiyasu, and others, for many years. Dr. King's research papers and the papers of many students represent a sizable portion of the AP Transactions to date. I hope that this history will help our younger members understand the motivation behind much of this large body of work. WFC]
