摘要

Smart-antenna applications are being proposed for several evolutions of telecommunications applications. The ability of smart-antenna systems to provide coverage for the desired users and to suppress the coverage for nonusers has been seen as a means of reducing interference and of maximizing radio usage. Existing base stations are either omnidirectional or sectorized. The power wasted by current antenna systems can be reduced considerably by the application of smart-antenna systems.
