摘要

Next-generation optical transport platforms are the foundation of carrier-class multiservice transport networks. Based on a modular concept, these platforms rely on a smart integration of optics and electronics to flexibly configure and optimize a network element for a particular application. Next-generation optical transport is strongly driven by emerging technologies on network and system level: NG-SDH and L2VPN support functions optimize transport networks for the increasing amount of data traffic. OA&M and resilience for circuit-oriented packet-switched networks have SDH-like performance and foster the introduction of carrier-class native Ethernet/MPLS transport. OTH provides a wavelength granular switching layer for optical transport networks with OAM support and FEC for clear channel signals. ASTN brings automatic control plane functionality in core and metro networks for simplified provisioning, meshed restoration schemes, and improved auto-discovery functions. Finally, robust transmission technologies and optical bypass architectures allow a cost optimization of the optical layer with respect to CAPEX and OPEX.
