A facile and simple process is described for the long-term management of Cs trapping fly-ash based filters. Glass-ceramic waste forms were synthesized from Cs-trapping filters simulated by the reaction of fly ash and Cs at a high temperature. Structural and morphological characterizations revealed that Cs was strongly immobilized in pollucite crystals, as well as in the binding glassy matrices that accommodate pollucite particles. The leaching results obtained by a product consistency test (PCT) suggested that borosilicate glass would be better than soda-lime glass to immobilize Cs-containing waste. These findings will be the basis of the final waste forms of Cs captured in fly ash filters. (C) 2017 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
