Valiant (previously designated HF 58) is the progeny of arnsingle F4 plant derived by single-seed descent in 1986 to 1988rnfrom the cross Hido 59lFarrer. Farrer is an Australian-bredrncultivar (Colton 1987) and Hido 59 is an Australian-bred linernselected from the cross Hill x Dodds. First field testing wasrncarried out at Narrabri at F5 in 1988-89 by I. A. Rose.rnSubsequent trials were conducted under both dryland andrnirrigated conditions at Narrabri and various sites in thernNorthwest Slopes and Tablelands areas of New South Wales.
