Future Directions for the ASA Archives

This year marks 40 years of archival-related efforts on behalf of the American Statistical Association. A summary of those efforts can be found at www.amstat.org/comm/archive/ ArchiveCommitteeHistory71406.doc. This article presents a basic outline of plans for the next few years. The ASA archives emphasis has been almost exclusively on preservation of records and materials. Good progress has been made, and an extensive amount of materials are located in the ASA/ISU Archives of the Parks Library at Iowa State University. The main emphases for the near future are to make the present archives more useful and to educate potential users (ASA members and other researchers) about the archives and how to best access materials. Many steps to be taken are relatively simple, but others will require more diligent efforts.
