Wilfrid J. Dixon, a pioneer in statistics education and statistical software, died of heart disease on September 20 at his home. He was 92. Dixon's groundbreaking introductory statistics textbook, his founding role in the Division of Biostatistics in UCLA's School of Public Health and the Department of Biomathematics in UCLA's School of Medicine, and his pioneering development of statistical software led to the awarding of the 1992 Samuel S. Wilks Award from the American Statistical Association.
