Alva L. Finkner, 93, passed away December 3, 2010. He was born in Akron, Colorado, on May 8, 1917. He earned his BS in agronomy from Colorado State College (1938), MS in agronomy from Kansas State College (1940), and PhD in experimental statistics from North Carolina State College (1950). He began his career with the Statistical Reporting Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture and served as head of the Raleigh Research Office. He was appointed as an associate professor of experimental statistics at NC State from 1950 to 1955, professor from 1955 to I960, and adjunct professor from 1960 to 1983. He joined Research Triangle Institute in 1960 and was senior vice president before retiring in 1983.
