Outsourced training helps utility fill code compliance need

DWD has strong in-house training capabilities, but using them in this case was not feasible. The utility did not know the details of the many newly announced NEC changes, nor did it have the materials and resources needed to present these changes to its employees. An in-house training effort would have taken the training department weeks or months of research and preparation at substantial cost in order to obtain the capabilities needed. Sending employees to a public training course involved lost productivity and cost issues. The first need was for the appropriate course. Second, obvious budgetary constraints meant that DWD needed a volume discount because of the number of personnel that needed to attend the training. The utility was unable to fulfill either of these requirements in the Denver area. Going beyond the area was not an option because of travel costs and out-of-facility time.
