American drinking water utilities have reason to applaud this year with the early-august enactment of federal spending legislation that provides a slight boost in funding for drinking water infrastructure in the fiscal year (fy) that begins october 1. The first FY2006 appropriations bill signed by President Bush this year, HR 2361 (enacted as Public Law 109-54), provides $850 million for the US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA)-administered Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF). That's $7 million more than was approved in FY2005 and equal to the amount requested by the administration.
