AWWA publishing evolves in dynamic digital age

A forward-looking group of AWWA founding members understood that it was important to create a published record of the association's first proceedings to share with generations of water professionals to come. The act of publishing and preserving an organization's intellectual property is now known as knowledge management. AWWA's founders knew that in order for the association to advance the education of its members and protect the public health, it was necessary to publish this important information. The first volume of AWWA proceedings was published in 1887, and it included a written record of the association's meetings from 1881 to 1886. This simple printed document marked the beginning of AWWA's long, rich publishing history.
