Water treatment: The past 30 years

Twenty-five years ago, George Symons published a classic article titled Water Treatment Through the Ages. The Symons article (first published as part of AWWA's 100th anniversary and reprinted here on page 87) describes the history of water treatment猺eaching back 40 centuries and continuing through the emergence of the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) in 1974. This article updates that history through 2005. Several threads of developing technology are presented here, each going back a bit in order to present a complete picture.
