摘要

What do a lawyer, a one-time draftsman, a German literature major, and a former probation officer have in common? A passion for water. They're also all women, who in one way or another are shaping the communities they live and work in through their roles in the water industry. The connection between women and water is timeless—from women who in ancient times journeyed to wells to collect water for their families to North America's pioneer women who gathered at streams and rivers to meet their families' needs. In many developing countries where safe drinking water isn't as simple as turning a tap, these practices continue. As nurturers and bearers of life, perhaps it is only natural that women feel such an affinity for water and its necessity for quality of life.
