A valuation of ecological services in the Laurentian Great Lakes Basin with an emphasis on Canada

Today the Canada-US GLWQA is more than 35 years old. This agreement, which expresses the two countries' commitment to restore and maintain the chemical, physical, and biological integrity of the waters of the Great Lakes basin ecosystem, has had substantial influence on the cleanup and restoration of the region. The progress made since 1972 is evidenced by scientific documenta-tion of the presence of spawning lake whitefish, resurgence of the cormorant population, rediscovery of sturgeon populations, and the return of nesting and fledging bald eagles.
