Drinking water quality and safety in the United States are certainly at or near the highest level among the few nations that have comprehensive and fully functioning national drinking water programs. Drinking water in the United States is safe and continues to become safer as more discharge controls are instituted for source waters, as drinking water disinfection and filtration technologies are more widely used and managed more effectively, and as several important drinking water regulations are implemented and enforced.
