Many regions of the United States are experiencing rapid population growth and escalating demands, which put even more stresses on water supplies already stretched thin to meet potable, irrigation, commercial, industrial, and ecosystem preservation uses. Thus, water providers frequently must rely on reclaimed water as an alternative supply source or use technologies on lower-quality source waters to produce potable water, which may generate concentrate waste streams.
