Testing and Monitoring Requirements for Class VI Wells

The following testing and monitoring activities are required of owners or operators of Class VI geologic sequestration (GS) injection wells during the life of the GS project. Mechanical integrity tests are conducted to confirm that the well maintains its internal and external mechanical integrity. These tests provide a means of measuring the adequacy of the construction of a Class VI injection well to ensure that carbon dioxide (CO_2) does not leak from the well and endanger underground sources of drinking water.
