Water loss: The North American dataset

Although it may seem an obvious progression for a utility to estimate, validate, and then reduce water losses, it is not always common practice. Most utilities still use a vague percentage value to represent water loss; this does not tell the true story of where they need to focus efforts to improve efficiency and their bottom lines. Water loss information is often hidden in the vast amounts of data a typical utility collects and therefore is not reported except as part of a single overarching value such as an overall percentage loss.
