Lead leaching from brass plumbing devices has significant potential for contaminating water supplies (Lytle & Schock, 1996). Significant practical evidence of lead-leaching problems from inline devices (e.g., Kimbrough et al, 2007, 2001; Mass et al, 1997} led to recent research exploring the rigor of NSF 61 sections 8 and 9 certification (Triantafyllidou & Edwards, 2007; Dudi et al, 2005).
