Corl-Gaynier AMVETS Post 1942 Memorial Display

On Memorial Day weekend, a temporary memorial was on display honoring local war casualties in Monroe County, Michigan. The display was set in Soldiers and Sailors Park. The Memorial is made up of 800 vinyl tombstones representing local servicemen killed in conflict beginning with the War of 1812 through the Global War on Terror. Each "tombstone" has the name of a local war veteran, the conflict in which they died and an American flag next to it. The display was available for public viewing, May 28 -30. More names will be added to the memorial as they are discovered. Post Commander and Historian Dave Eby said, "The intention is to memorialize all of the Monroe County men who died in each conflict." Future plans for the memorial include displays in different communities around Monroe County.
