Family-run companies in which fathers and sons occupy executive positions are not unknown in shipping. However, International Shipholding Corp. is unique in the sense that two such pairings have interacted equably for decades. Niels W. Johnsen, 81, who recently retired as chairman and chief executive officer of ISC, remains on the company's board of directors. His brother, Erik F. Johnsen, 77, has been elected chairman of the board and chief executive officer. Niels M. Johnsen, 57, son of Niels W., is now president of ISC. Erik L. Johnsen, 46, son of Erik F., continues as the company's executive vice president. The younger Johnsens also lead ISC's principal subsidiaries. Niels M. is president of Waterman Steamship Corp. and chairman of Central Gulf Lines. Erik L. is president of Central Gulf Lines.
