There's a telling split between the on-time arrival and departure statistics for Indianapolis International Airport. Chris Matney, IIA's air services director, said the airport is "middle of the road" when it comes to passenger on-ti me arrivals - about 72 percent - while its on-time departure percentage is much higher - around 82 percent. "The lower on-time arrival percentage is not because we're congested," he said. "It's occurring primarily because aircraft are late taking off at their departure airports." Since planes can almost always take off from Indianapolis without delay, Matney said his airport plays a critical role in the larger aviation network.
